LEARNING PROGRAM




Play is in the heart of our curriculum. PLAY is immensely important for the development of children. We at Onyx Day Care and Learning School recognizes the value of play and we provide countless opportunities for our students to discover and experience different types of play. It is a right of the child to engage in play and recreational activities as stated in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. “Play is an important vehicle for developing self-regulation as well as promoting language, cognition and social competence.”(Copple & Bredekamp 2009).

KINDERGARTEN - 5 years old by the start of the target school year :



Five (5) years old by the start of the target school year We provide a place where the child can grow and learn in every dimension of development. This program is critical for the emerging learner to be prepared for elementary school. The teachers will use your child’s natural curiosity to help boost school readiness. We offer plenty of hands-on play and exploration. We put a clear emphasis on continuing development of strong language, reading, writing abilities, and math skills essential for ongoing success in school and life.



NURSERY – 4 years old by the start of the target school year (4.0-4.11):



The nursery program expands on the foundation that was established in the Toddler Program. As your child grows he or she is more secure and ready for a higher level of challenge. Developmentally appropriate practices are followed in creating activities for children, which will foster their social, verbal, cognitive and physical skills.



TODDLERS – 3 years old by the start of the target school year (3.0-3.11):



Toddlers learn best in safe, loving places where they can explore, in their own way. They will enjoy learning experiences that promote their blossoming independence and social skills, and foster self-confidence. We will begin to add more structure and routine to your child’s class schedule. Your child will learn English and basic numerical skills. Toddlers will develop mobility, autonomy and self-help skills.



LITTLE LEARNERS – 24 to 36 months :



The Little Learners program provides a warm and welcoming environment for your child. They will enjoy a lot of activities with peers, making new friends and harnessing their skills physically, mentally and socially. Two year old's are naturally curious and eager to explore their environment. We provide opportunities and experiences that encourage learning and foster development.
